FIRST EDITION

Inspired by artworks found within international museums to the utilitarian design of urban walkways, ERDEN’s first collection concerns contrast: eschewing the traditional grid of knots, several works in the collection insert analog elements of bronze and brass, their strength standing in stark contrast to the surrounding fibers. United by a deep examination, FIRST EDITION’s pieces explore the aesthetics seen at the intersection of the contemporary and the ancient. ERDEN’s first flat weave collection concerns itself primarily with materiality and contrast: very fine Peruvian alpaca standing in opposition to casual linen, or the exuberant thickness of 196-ply Huacaya alpaca weft constrained by a single ply cotton warp. All superfluous graphic patterns have been pared away, leaving behind only honesty of the material and simplicity of weave.
